Hey everyone how is everyone doing? I hope everyone had an amazing weekend. But today is Monday and it’s time for another awesome book review! This week I’m re-reading a book series that is one of my absolute favorites and the first book in the series called:
Throne of Glass
Summary:
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.
Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king’s council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she’ll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.
Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she’s bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her… but it’s the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead… quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
My Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
So I really enjoyed the first installment to this book but after being on a major vampire kick going to fae was a major adjustment. I remained very skeptical of this book and only really started to get into this book after chapter 8 or so. I didn’t know how to feel about Calena or her situation but once I finally got a look into everything she dealt with I totally loved the book.
I really liked the depths all the characters had especially the characters brought together who come from different kingdoms and circumstances. The dynamic between Chaol and Caelena was hypnotic and dangerous. And after everything she had been through at the hands of evil people it was nice to see Caelena happy. I love that she’s not your typical heroine and even has a cockiness to her that’s very uncommon.
I really enjoyed the setting of the story as well, it definitely gave me a Lord of the Rings Middle Earth feel to it. The only difference was the plumbing and medicinal remedies other than that I could totally see Aragorn and Caelena kicking some bad guy butt.
While this book for me had a slow start I’m very happy I decided to branch out my horizons and take a leap into a intoxicating and dangerous world.
So that’s ut for this book review everyone, I hoped you all enjoyed it. And if you want to be notified of when I post again hit that follow button and have an awesome day!
