Throwback Thursday: The Odyssey by Homer

Hey guys how is everyone doing today? Tomorrow is going to be a little hectic for me hence why I’m making sure to post this as well as my TBR Thursday early. This awesome concept was brought to you by Renee at its booktalk. And this week the book that I’m doing for a throwback is:

The Odyssesy

Summary:

Tell me, Muse, the story of that resourceful man who was driven to wander far and wide after he had sacked the holy citadel of Troy. He saw the cities of many people and he learnt their ways. He suffered great anguish on the high seas in his struggles to preserve his life and bring his comrades home. But he failed to save those comrades, in spite of all his efforts. It was their own transgression that brought them to their doom, for in their folly they devoured the oxen of Hyperion the Sun-god and he saw to it that they would never return. Tell us this story, goddess daughter of Zeus, beginning at whatever point you will.

All the survivors of the war had reached their homes by now and so put the perils of battle and the sea behind them. Odysseus alone was prevented from returning to the home and wife he yearned for by that powerful goddess, the Nymph Calypso, who longed for him to marry her, and kept him in her vaulted cave. Not even when the rolling seasons brought in the year which the gods had chosen for his homecoming to Ithaca was he clear of his troubles and safe among his friends. Yet all the gods pitied him, except Poseidon, who pursued the heroic Odysseus with relentless malice till the day when he reached his own country.

Poseidon, however, was now gone on a visit to the distant Ethiopians, in the most remote part of the world, half of whom live where the Sun goes down, and half where he rises. He had gone to accept a sacrifice of bulls and rams, and there he sat and enjoyed the pleasures of the feast. Meanwhile the rest of the gods had assembled in the palace of Olympian Zeus, and the Father of men and gods opened a discussion among them. He had been thinking of the handsome Aegisthus, whom Agamemnon’s far-famed son Orestes killed; and it was with Aegisthus in his mind that Zeus now addressed the immortals:

‘What a lamentable thing it is that men should blame the gods and regard us as the source of their troubles, when it is their own transgressions which bring them suffering that was not their destiny. Consider Aegisthus: it was not his destiny to steal Agamemnon’s wife and murder her husband when he came home. He knew the result would be utter disaster, since we ourselves had sent Hermes, the keen-eyed Giant-slayer, to warn him neither to kill the man nor to court his wife. For Orestes, as Hermes told him, was bound to avenge Agamemnon as soon as he grew up and thought with longing of his home. Yet with all his friendly counsel Hermes failed to dissuade him. And now Aegisthus has paid the final price for all his sins.’

So I was forced to read this book in middle school then more extensively in highschool. It’s a very good read filled with all kinds of action, adventure, and some crazy mythological beings trying to kill the man character filled with top much pride to care.

That’s it for this post everyone I hope you all enjoyed it if you did and want notifications on when I post in the future just hit that follow button and have an awesome day.

TBR Thursday: State of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury

Hey everyone I hope you have all had an aweaome week so far. I know it’s a bit early but I’m doing my TBR Thursday now. This concept was brought to you by Kimberly Faye Reads. This week the book that’s been on my TBR list is a book I got from the awesome book box from Fairyloot, and that is:

State of Sorrow

Summary:

A people cowed by grief and darkness.
A cut-throat race for power and victory.
A girl with everything and nothing to lose…

Sorrow all but rules the Court of Tears in a land gripped by perpetual grief, forever mourning her brother who died just days before Sorrow was born.

But when her brother is seemingly found alive, and intent on taking control, Sorrow has to choose whether to step aside for a stranger who might not be who he claims to be, or embark on a power struggle for a position she never really wanted.

So I have yet to read this but it sounds really awesome so I’m excited to read it hopefully soon. Well that’s it for today everyone if you enjoy my content and want notifications of when I post them please hit that follow button and I hope you have an awesome day.

Happiness

Your stare sends shivers down my spine as heat blooms across my face

I feel completely safe in your tight embrace

Compassion and caring dances in your hazel eyes

As I feel my heart swell I almost start to cry

Doubt and darkness climb into my mind as I hold on tight enjoying the ride

I can’t help but feel lucky as your support and kindness means the world to me

And despite my fears I choose to let things simply be

And for the first time in my life I can say that things are finally starting to go my way

Women Crush Wednesday: Talina from Spurn by Jaymin Eve

Hey guys how is everyone doing today? I apologize for my post being a little later than usual I ended up falling asleep very early last night. But happy Wednesday everyone as you know because it’s Wednesday it’s time for another awesome Women Crush Wednesday! And this week my Woman Crush is:

Talina

So I chose Talina for my Women Crush this Wednesday because of her kind yet fiercely powerful personality. Talina for the most part is a pacifist on a planet made up of nothing but water for the most part. And being a pacifist in a Kingdom known for it’s cruelty, social climbing, and back stabbing has definitely given Talina a thick skin. She’s very respectful and quiet unless you start hurting people or animals for your own sick pleasure, then the gloves are off and Talina turns into a powerful kick ass female. I like that Talina has a quiet strength to her, it makes her a badass in her own way and unlike many female heroines I’ve read about before in paranormal romance books. I love heroines that know who they are but it was refreshing to read about a group of females who were just starting to understand who they were and what they could do. But that’s why I picked Talina she’s intelligent, compassionate, caring, and fiercely determined.

Well that’s it for this Women Crush Wednesday. I hope everyone enjoyed it you did and want notification of when I post in the future just hit that follow button and have an aweaome day!
